CALL CONTROL HOME LANDLINE CALL BLOCKER REVIEW
Feature #1: Community IQ® Technology
Call Control Home's Community IQ® Technology is a crowd-sourced database of unwanted calls.
So if another user blocks a number on their device, other Call Control users will also have that number blocked moving forward.
Our Take: Community Blocking Is Not Enough
On their website, Call Control says: "while we can’t guarantee we will block every spam call, our cloud-based algorithms quickly identify the worst offenders, dramatically reducing harassing and dangerous calls."
In reality, that reduction turns out to only be stopping ~5% of unwanted calls.
This is because scammers have access to hundreds of millions of phone numbers. Which means that even a crowd-sourced database will not come close to being enough.
imp stops 100% of unwanted calls because it checks for callers you actually want to hear from. Everyone one else either silently goes to voicemail or is blocked.
Feature #2: Automatic Updates
Call Control Home syncs with updated lists from spam reports crowdsourced from Everycaller.com and other Call Control users to automatically update and blocks calls from the worst reported offenders.
Our Take: Crowdsourced Blocking Is Better than Nothing. But Not Much.
Because scammers are able to easily change their phone numbers, this means that the majority call from different numbers. So if you block and report one, the scammer will just try again from another number.
This means that Call Control's ability to stop calls is only as good as in the information in its database. Which is why 95% of unwanted calls are still able to sneak around Call Control's algorithm.
Instead of relying on checking against hundreds of millions of possible bad guys, imp simply checks against the contacts in your smartphone.
This is not only much faster, it is also 100% accurate.
Feature #3: Personal Block & Allow Lists
For all the numbers that evade Call Control's call blocking algorithm, users are able to manually "block" calls. Users can also create a personal "allow" list of approved callers.
Our Take: Success is Not as Simple as "Block" or "Allow"
In treating callers as either "Blocked" or "Allowed" Call Control hangs up on a potentially wanted call 78% of the time.
Also, one Amazon reviewer shared that when receiving an "allowed call" Call Control "doesn't transmit the caller ID of incoming calls to the phone. So when the phone rings, one has no way of knowing who is calling from the allowed numbers. The phone's screen remains blank."
With imp, when your phone rings, you know it's a call you want. And you can see who is calling.
